Talib Kweli and Consequence rock the same Marvin Gaye track Jay-Z did on American Dreamin’ with their song 1st Time. Check it out.
This is cool…
…but Jay KILLED it on American Dreamin’. Click here if you missed him breaking down the lyrics of the song in his new book Decoded.
And, here’s the original Marvin Gaye joint, Soon I’ll Be Loving You Again:
Omar Akil brings a little international flavor in this week’s installment of PREEM-EAR. Premier lays a classic Primo track for a French cat name Soulkast. Check it out.
PREEM-EAR: SOULKAST “Première salve”
This dude SOULKAST goes in on this track. Even though I don’t speak a lick of français (minus the two or three times I paid attention in 8th grade French class), you can hear the skill in this MC. And by lacing him with his signature sound, Preemo gives us good reason to take French rap serious (again – arguably).
Delivery: think French-speaking TWISTA. Plus, all of the name dropping that Soulkast does on this track is reminiscent of THE GAME on his 1st album, “The Documentary.”
Enjoy this week’s PREEM-EAR: SOULKAST “Première salve”
Word on the street is Preem is producing the entire album (check the SOULKAST trailer below).

“new rappers is cool but we still bump Biggie” ~ Ortiz, J
J. Cole wrote a nice song for Diddy on I’m Coming Home. The song sounds like it could be from B.o.B.’s or Eminem’s albums–pop track with a nice female vocal. Not a bad look, though.
Click here to hear the final version by Diddy. According to Nahright.com, the verses may have been written by Jay-Z even though J. Cole does the rhyming on the track.
G.O.O.D. Day. Ready for some new Kanye West Music? Check out The Joy ft Pete Rock, Jay-Z, Charlie Wilson, Curtis Mayfield (don’t ask), KiD CuDi and some SUPER sexy artwork.

Damn. Just when you think these can’t get any better, Kanye drops some old soul on a Pete Rock track. Curtis Mayfield’s silky smooth hook sounds like he was in the booth with Charlie Wilson. And Jay? Fire! The crazy thing is these are just the outtakes, folks. The real album drops on 11/23. Click here to download The Joy. Oh. And here’s that artwork:
Big K.R.I.T is one of my favorite rappers this year. He and L.E.S. rock a smooth flow over this old Usher track.
Always thought this Usher track was dope. Maybe it’s because Just Blaze did it. In any case, L.E.S. and Big K.R.I.T. do the nice refresh. In case you’re not up on K.R.I.T., click here to get caught up.
Here’s the Usher joint:
And here’s the original song that Just Blaze sampled (and really sped up) called Mack’s Stroll – The Getaway (Chase Scene) by Willie Hutch. Just Blaze is a genius.
Remember The Knux? They had a hot joint out 2 years ago called Cappucino (the remix) and were being touted as the next to blow.
They didn’t fulfill that promise but they’re back with a dope song called Medusa (Let’s Get Stoned)…Click here to listen and download. And, in case you missed that Cappucino remix, here you go:
Curren$y drops some more of that good soul music for his second video promo for Pilot Talk 2. This album is going to be a winner.
Pilot Talk 2 drops on 11/23.
