Lupe and his crew have taken on the name All City Chess Club. It’s not a stretch to assume they would not be offended by the term “backpackers.” It’s good to see so many facets of hip-hop again. Check it out:

Janelle Monae is having a good year. In addition to recently being chosen to honor Prince at the BET Awards, her new album ArchAndroid was just name one of the year’s 10 best so far by mtv.com. It’s good to see music that is left of center get some shine.

According to Nahright, Lupe was the original rapper on Nothin’ on You, but Atlantic chose B.o.B. for the track. Though I love Lupe, after taking a listen to his version I can understand why they went with B.o.B. Bob’s sing-songy flow on the song seems like a much better accompaniment to Bruno Mars’ infectious melody. I can’t see the Lupe track being more than an album cut–not a platinum-selling single. Don’t take my word for it though. Click here to listen for yourself.

Lupe and B.o.B. fit with Janelle Monae. They are 3 artists who are pushing the boundaries of their genres. B.o.B’s and Janelle’s albums are 2 of the most solid to drop this year. Lupe is next…Download Tightrope here.
